About
Kids Around Dogs (KAD) - KAD-AP Overview
Kids Around Dogs (KAD) and their KAD-AP (Kids Around Dogs - Approved Professional) offer services designed to foster positive interactions between children and dogs. Our mission is to create a safe and enjoyable environment where children can learn about dogs, understand their behaviour, and develop confidence around them. KAD-AP's are uniquely qualified to provide advice and guidance surrounding the assessment of dogs in schools too.
Overcoming Fear of Dogs
Utilising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques, our KAD-AP helps both children and adults address and overcome their fears of dogs. Through structured activities and supportive guidance, we empower participants to manage their anxieties and build a healthier relationship with dogs. Our 10-week programme is designed to never force unwanted interactions but cope with the fear response of seeing, hearing or even smelling a dog!
Bond Building Classes
Our bond-building classes are tailored for children and their dogs, focusing on fun and engaging games that facilitate a strong connection. These classes encourage children to interact positively with their canine companions, fostering trust and understanding. Activities are designed to be enjoyable while also instilling essential skills for responsible dog ownership.
Safety Talks for Kids
We conduct safety talks aimed at groups and clubs for children aged 4 years and older. These educational sessions cover vital topics such as:
Understanding dog body language
Safe approaches to dogs
Recognising and respecting a dog’s space
What to do if a dog approaches you
By equipping children with knowledge, we aim to reduce the risk of dog bites and promote safe interactions between kids and dogs.
Reducing Bite Risks Through Education
Education is key to reducing bite risks among children. Our programme focuses on teaching children how to interact safely with dogs, recognising signs of discomfort in dogs, and understanding the importance of consent when approaching animals. By fostering awareness and respect, we help create safer environments for children and their furry friends.
If you work with or run a kids group or club and would like to book Sam for a talk - get in touch!
