Hello, I'm Sam!

My journey begins when I was very young. We always had dogs growing up, and when I was able to get my first dog, I did zero research on anything but the breed I wanted and ended up with a puppy from a very stressed mother who was therefore riddled with anxiety her entire life.

 

No trainers would help me - what was wrong with my dog could not be fixed with choke chains, lead pops and 'tough love'. Essentially, dog training just didn't take into account the emotional wellbeing of dogs at the time, so we were written off, but I knew there was another way.

 

I knew I didn't have to instil fear and pain in my dog in order to 'fix' her, so I stopped shadowing my trainer, gave up hurting other dogs, and, with a heavy heart, gave up dog training.

Fast forward. Science has found that everything I was taught was wrong. Dogs are the sentient beings I always believed they were, capable of loving, grieving, learning in a much more semi dimensional way than previously thought. They can learn with love, they can learn with praise and not only that, they thrive on it! I never wanted to be a part of a world where dogs are forced, and now I had the science to back up what I had known my entire life, now I could show people a better way.

I am not only an Institute of Modern Dog Training (IMDT) certified trainer but also a certified dog walker with the Modern Dog Walkers Association (MDWA). Both of these world leading organisations make sure that their members are held to the highest regard in terms of dog welfare and safety - the least dog's deserve as our best friend. I also am a Kids Around Dogs Approved Professional (KAD-AP), trained to help people overcome their fears of dogs and work with children through education to improve the interactions between dogs and kids.

I am currently owned by two terriers - Killian and Wilfred - and married to a very understanding man. I consider myself lucky every single day.
